Leadership Team
Meet the Round-Up Leadership Team under the direction of Heidi Haubrich!

Heidi Haubrich, Director
Heidi currently serves as the Director for the Calgary Round-Up Band (since 2023) and Calgary Stetson Show Band. Heidi's journey began back in 2005 where she was in the Calgary Round-Up Band, Calgary Stetson Show Band and then Calgary Stampede Showband. From there she began instructing the visual program with the Calgary Stetson Show Band and is a current Visual Technician for the Calgary Stampede Showband.
Outside of band, Heidi holds a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Human Resources along with her CPHR designation. She is a Senior Human Resources Business Partner at Triovest Realty Advisors.

Allie Cooper, Assistant Program Director & Team Lead, Visual
Allie Cooper is an educator, musician, and leader in Calgary’s youth performing arts community. She began her journey as a trumpet player with the Calgary Round-Up Band, later performing with the Stetson Show Band and the Stampede Showband. Allie holds a BA in Speech-Language Sciences (2018) and a BEd from the University of Calgary (2020). She has worked in the classroom as a special needs teacher and out of the classroom as a curriculum and program developer for the Calgary Stampede.
Outside of Round-Up, she is the Assistant Director of the Stampede Showband. In these roles, she supports the growth of young performers through innovative visual programming, mentorship, and leadership. Allie is passionate about creating inclusive, inspiring environments where students thrive both on the field and in life.

John Meehan, Artistic Team Lead
The 2025/2026 season is John Meehan’s third with the Calgary Round-Up Band, and he is excited to see the continued growth and achievements of its outstanding members and staff.
In addition to his work with Round-Up, John is Executive and Artistic Director of Spiritus Marching Arts Association, Music Arranger for the Calgary Stetson Show Band, and brass arranger for the Blue Devils A, B & C Corps as well as the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps from San Antonio, Texas.
John has spent more than three decades composing and arranging for ensembles worldwide, and his impact has been recognized with inductions into the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame (2019), the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame (2019), and the Buglers Hall of Fame (2016).
Beyond his writing and teaching, John enjoys producing and editing music for winter guards, figure skaters, and dance studios, and is internationally recognized as an adjudicator for marching bands, concert bands, and even karaoke. He also contributed as a percussionist to the Monsters University film soundtrack.
John makes his home in Calgary with his wife Jackie, their three daughters, and their rescue dog, Sully.

Stephen Johnston, Team Lead, Ensemble & Woodwinds
Stephen has been part of the marching arts community since 2011, bringing over a decade of experience. He studied music and flute at Red Deer Polytechnic, and has built a meaningful career in the music industry. As an educator, Stephen is passionate about giving back to the community that first inspired him and helping students discover the joy of music and the marching arts.
Visual Instructional Team
Meet the Calgary Round-Up Band Visual Instructional Team lead by Allie Cooper.

Anna Carlson, Visual Instructor
Anna has been a part of the Calgary marching band community since 2013, completing 2 years with the Calgary Round-Up Band, 1 year with the Calgary Stetsons Showband, and 6 years with the Calgary Stampede Showband. This will be her 4th year teaching Visual at the Calgary Round-Up Band.
Outside of band, Anna holds a Bachelor of Science and an Advanced Certificate in Forensic Science. She is currently working with EMS, restocking ambulances for paramedics.

Connor Bates, Visual Instructor
Connor marched tuna and euphonium for eight years, three of those with the Stampede Showband. He competed at DCI in 2022, and won WAMSB in 2023.
Connor currently studies psychology at the University of Calgary.

Isabel Leano, Visual Instructor
Before becoming a visual tech in January 2023, she played clarinet in the Calgary Round Up Band from 2016 to 2017, then joined the Calgary Stetsons Show Band from 2018 to 2019, and concluded her band career with the Calgary Stampede Showband from 2020 to 2023.
Outside of the band, she is currently a fourth-year student at the University of Calgary pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Religious Studies with a minor in Museum and Heritage Studies.

Kaxton Cochrane, Visual Instructor
Kaxton first joined the Bands of Calgary in 2017 when she marched mellophone in the Calgary Round-Up Band. They spent the next 8 years with the bands, marching 2 years in Stetsons and 5 with Stampede. This is her fourth year teaching with Round-Up as part of the visual team and she’s super excited to help members hone their skills and develop an appreciation for the marching arts.
Outside of band, Kaxton as taken up colourguard with Encorps and spends their free time studying, travelling, and going out with friends.

Madi Mcdonald, Visual & Woodwind Instructor
MadiMcDonald has been teaching at Round-Up since 2025 and has been apart of the Bands of Calgary since 2014. She has played flute for over 13 years, having received both classical and contemporary training. She is experienced with educating youth in musical literacy and marching technique.
Outside of band, she will be graduating in 2026 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology.

Marc Laberge, Visual & Drum Major Instructor
Marc is the Drum Major instructor and a member of the Visual team. He was in of the Bands of Calgary from 2017 to 2024, dedicating eight years to the marching arts. During his time with the Calgary Stetson Show Band and Calgary Stampede Showband, Marc held several leadership roles, including serving as a Drum Major for four years. This is Marc's 4th year teaching at the Calgary Round-Up Band.
Outside of band, Marc is currently completing his BSc in Geophysics at the University of Calgary.
Woodwind Instructional Team
Meet the Round-Up Woodwind Instructional team under the direction of Stephen Johnston and Claire Ashworth!

Claire Ashworth, Assistant Team Lead, Woodwinds
Claire is very excited to be back for a third year of teaching at the Round-Up Band! Claire did nine years of marching band, moving through Round-Up, Stetson, and the Stampede Showband.
Claire holds a degree in Music, and is currently studying to be a teacher.

Hope Harrison, Woodwind Instructor
Hope has been a member through the Calgary Round-Up Band, Calgary Stetsons Showband, and the Calgary Stampede Showband over the past 8 years! She currently fulfills the role of Flute Instructor with the Calgary Round-Up Band.
She is currently attending post secondary education in the medical field and loves being involved the music community of Calgary.

Matthew Derakhshan, Woodwind Instructor
This is his third year instructing at Round-Up Band as the low reed instructor. He spent 4 years in the band programs, marching flute and the baritone saxophone with 1 year of Showband.
Outside of band he is currently in his 4 th year of a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at
SAIT.

Michael Carlson, Woodwind Instructor
Michael has been involved with marching band for over a decade, starting his first year of Round-Up back in 2013. With a combined 8 years of performing with Round-Up, Stetsons and the Stampede Showband, he taught at Stetsons for 1 year and is now starting his 2nd year teaching clarinet at Round-Up. Outside of marching band, Michael plays with the Calgary Wind Symphony and the Summit View Symphony Orchestra.
Brass Instructional Team
Meet the Round-Up Brass Instructional team under the direction of Peter Arum!

Peter Arum, Team Lead, Brass
Peter has been on staff with the Calgary Roundup Band since 2012, working with the tuba section until 2019 and serving as Brass Team Lead since 2018. Drawing on his experience as a lifelong tuba player and former Calgary Stampede Showband member, he is dedicated to developing strong musicianship and leadership in young brass players.

Austin Wattling, Brass Instructor
Having spent over 10 years as trumpet player in various ensembles around Calgary, Austin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. Austin is known in the community for displaying a passion for marching music education and is constantly coming up with new ideas on ways to teach growing musicians.

Cole Ellis, Brass Instructor

Emily Kiddle, Brass Instructor
Emily Kiddle is a brass instructor with the Calgary Round Up Band, teaching trombone. She has 9 years of experience in Alberta’s marching arts and most recently aged out of the Calgary Stampede Showband last year. Emily is excited to return to Round Up and share her passion and knowledge with the next generation of performers. In her free time, you can often find her enjoying a book, drawing a picture, or enjoying nature.

Morgan Siewert, Brass Instructor
After spending 9 years in marching band, Morgan has spent the last 4 years teaching Brass at the Calgary Round-Up Band.
When she is not spending time teaching, Morgan works in Special Effects and Set Decoration in the film and television industry.

Rachael Lough, Brass Instructor & Office Administrator
Rachael has been teaching at the Calgary Round-Up Band for 4 years after spending over a decade performing in different community ensembles, from marching band to symphonic groups. She is currently completing her undergraduate degree in education at the University of Calgary.
Color Guard Instructional Team
Meet the Round-Up Color Guard Instructional team under the direction of Halle Bilquist!

Halle Bilquist, Team Lead, Color Guard
Halle has been involved in the marching arts community, both locally and internationally, for 15 years. Introduced to The Calgary Round-Up Band in 2011, she joined the color guard, and would go on to perform with The Calgary Stetsons Show Band, Dynamic Winter Guard, The Calgary Stampede Showband, Escalade Winter Guard and The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. As an educator Halle has worked with several programs throughout the city and currently serves on the instructional teams at Escalade Winter Guard and The Calgary Stampede Show Band. She is excited to be back for her 4th season with Round-Up as the Color Guard Team Lead.

Emersen Krippl, Color Guard Instructor
With 10 years in Calgary’s marching arts, including five with the Stampede Showband, I bring strong performance experience and a deep love for the activity. My three years of teaching have shaped my ability to lead, motivate, and connect with students. I’m excited to help young performers grow both on and off the field.

Kaitlyn Murray, Color Guard Instructor
Kaitlyn Murray has been spinning for 10 years the Round Up Band, the Stetson Show Band, the Stampede Showband and most recently a season with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. This will be Kaitlyn's fourth year teaching on the Round Up staff and she is excited for another incredible season!
Outside of the marching community she works at a local hospital in an inpatient rehabilitation therapy setting.

Katelyn Meehan, Color Guard Instructor
Katelyn Meehan took her first dance class at the age of three and continued to perform competitively in the styles of jazz, tap, and ballet all the way through high school. She took a two-year hiatus from the dance studio to perform with the Blue Devils Winter Guard, and was co-captain of the group in her second season. This is Katelyn’s sixth year teaching color guard and her third year on the Round Up staff.
Outside of band she is working on completing a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.

Odessa Zeh, Color Guard Instructor
Odessa Zeh has been a part of the bands of Calgary since 2015. She has been a member of numerous colour guards across Calgary, competing throughout Canada and the world. This is her first year teaching at the Calgary Round Up Band and she is excited to share the joy of colour guard and marching band with all members. Outside of band, Odessa is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.

Paige Abernethy, Color Guard Instructor
Paige is an instructor with the colorguard who is in her second year of teaching. She was a performer with the marching bands in Calgary for 9 years, and was a member of the band council during her time with the Stampede Showband. She is currently a student at the University of Calgary, completing her degree in Biological Sciences, while tutoring high school math and science.
Percussion Instructional Team
Meet the Round-Up Percussion Instructional team under the direction of Jessica Murdoch!

Jessica Murdoch, Team Lead, Percussion
Jessica Murdoch has had a significant career as an instructor and coordinator. Her love of performance came from her time in the front ensembles of Our Lady of the Rockies’ marching band and Allegiance Elite Drum & Bugle Corps, both under the instruction of Robin Fulbrook. Her experience encouraged her to become a percussion instructor herself, but then returned to performance to join the Dubuque Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, taking her to DCI Finals.
She holds Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance from the University of Calgary and currently serves as the Front Ensemble Coordinator at Calgary Stampede Showband and the Percussion Team Lead at Calgary Round Up Band.
Her passion for music education has awarded her several opportunities, including numerous percussion clinics for students in a variety of schools and she has worked with the Calgary Philharmonic through their PhilKids program, providing music education to kids in underserved communities.

Erika Ashworth, Team Lead, Drumline
Erika is one of the Round-Up Band Drumline Team Leads. This is her fourth year teaching with Round-Up, and she previously spent 7 years as a member in the bands of Calgary.
Outside of band, Erika works as a Registered Nurse in labour and delivery.

Jared Smith, Team Lead, Drumline
Jared is one of the Team Leads of the Drumline. This is his 6th year teaching Roundup, and his 12th year being involved with the bands. Outside of Roundup Jared is a Contractor, doing residential renovations.

Claire McTaggart, Front Ensemble Instructor
Claire has been involved in the marching band community for nearly 10 years, as a member in the bands from 2015-2024, most recently as a member of the Stampede Showband for 6 years, with 4 years on the Leadership team as front ensemble captain. This is Claire’s 5th year teaching in the bands, with her first year of instruction being 2021. Outside of band, Claire is a University of Calgary alumni and currently works as a Recruitment Advisor at UCalgary.

Owen Ellis, Front Ensemble Instructor & Sound Technician
Owen is an instructor with the front ensemble, primarily working with the sound system. Owen was a performer with the marching bands in Calgary for 9 years and is in his second year teaching. He is currently a student at the University of Calgary, studying Energy Engineering.

Reuben Grendus, Front Ensemble Instructor
Reuben has been involved with the Bands of Calgary since 2012, as a performer, instructor, arranger and composer.
Reuben received his Bachelor’s of Music in Integrated studies of Percussion Performance and Composition in 2018, and continues to engage in the Calgary area music community with his Jazz Trio, providing private lessons and clinics, and writing for various groups.
In his free time, he enjoys golfing in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and is an avid video game collector.

Zach Blair, Drumline Instructor
Zach is the tenor drum instructor for the Drumline. This is his third year teaching with Roundup and his eleventh year being involved in the bands.
Outside of band Zach is studying Anthropology at the University of Calgary and works as a Server.
